MOVING GUIDE
How U-Haul Moving Help Works: Booking and the Payment Code
Short answer
Moving Help is U-Haul's marketplace for hiring hourly moving labor. You pick a provider, helpers and hours, then check out. Your money is held behind a 6-digit Payment Code, and you give that code to the crew only once the job is done and you are satisfied.
We are one of the local crews listed on Moving Help, so we know this process from the provider's side. We are an independent company near Raleigh and not otherwise affiliated with U-Haul. The rules below come from U-Haul's own pages, linked where each one appears, so you can check them yourself.
What Moving Help is
Moving Help is a marketplace run by U-Haul. U-Haul describes it as the place to hire labor-only movers to load and unload, pack and unpack, paid by the hour. You compare the providers, pick one and book through the site.
The key word is labor. On the same page, U-Haul puts it plainly: with Moving Help, you pack your belongings and drive your moving truck. The crew does the carrying and loading. You handle the vehicle.
U-Haul lists more than truck work, too. Its services include loading and unloading a portable container, a storage unit or a personal vehicle, plus packing, unpacking and heavy furniture. If labor-only help is new to you, our guide on hiring movers just to load your rental truck explains how the split of jobs works.
Booking: what you choose
U-Haul's How It Works page lays out the steps:
- Enter your location or locations, the date and the start time.
- Compare the providers that serve your area, with their rates and reviews.
- Choose the services, the number of helpers and the number of hours.
- Complete checkout. U-Haul emails your confirmation.
The two choices that matter most are helpers and hours. Too few of either and the day runs long. If you are not sure, our guide on how many movers you need walks through it by home size and what you own.
Use the notes when you book. Stairs, a long walk from the parking spot, a sleeper sofa, a bed to take apart: the crew can only plan for what it knows about.
The Payment Code: what it is and when to give it
U-Haul says the Payment Code holds your funds in an escrow account and is used to pay your Service Provider. Moving Help adds that it is a 6-digit code. In plain words, the crew does not get paid until you hand over that code.
When to give it: U-Haul says to share it only after the job is finished, and you are 100 percent satisfied. Not at the start. Not when the crew walks in. At the end, once you have looked around.
Where to find it: U-Haul lists the confirmation email, text messages if you opted in, your Moving Help Customer Account and the U-Haul App.
Two rules worth knowing before the day:
- If something is wrong, hold the code. Moving Help says that if you are not satisfied, you shouldn't release the code. Talk it through with the provider first.
- Once you share it, it's done. U-Haul's payment code page says Moving Help cannot issue a refund after the code is shared. Any refund after that would have to come from the provider.
A good crew will not mind waiting while you check the rooms. Ask for that walk-around before you read out the code.
If the job runs long: adding hours
Moves don't always fit the hours booked. A bigger load than expected, a slow elevator or a long carry can all add time.
U-Haul says that if extra hours are needed during the move, you click "Add Hours" in the U-Haul App or your Customer Account. Moving Help adds that the provider can also request added hours for you to approve. Either way, the extra time is paid with the same Payment Code. You don't get a second code.
If you think you are close, say so early. It is easier to talk about another hour while there is still time on the clock than at the very end.
What the crew needs from you on the day
This part is the same whether you book on Moving Help or with us directly. From the crew's side, these are the things that keep a job moving:

- The vehicle is there and open. The crew is booked for set hours. If the rental pickup runs late, the crew waits on the clock with nothing to load.
- A clear path to the door. Move rugs, shoes, toys and anything in the hallway that a dresser has to pass.
- Boxes sealed and labeled. Taped boxes stack. Open ones and loose items take extra trips.
- Someone who can answer questions. What stays, what goes, which room at the new place. One person with the answers saves a lot of stopping.
- Your gear, if you have any. Tell the crew ahead of time what blankets, straps or dollies you have, so they know what to bring.
- Parking worked out. Know where the vehicle will sit before the crew arrives, so the carry is short.
Booking us there or directly
You can book Moving for Jesus either way. Our daytime crew rates on Moving Help match this site, and it is the same crew.
U-Haul's How It Works page also describes a marketplace fee that it refunds if you leave a review within 60 days. That fee and its rules belong to U-Haul, so check that page for the current details.
What it costs to book us direct
Our rates are for moving labor and cover the whole crew. Two movers are $90 per daytime hour for hours 1 to 3, then $81 per hour from hour 4. Every job has a two-hour minimum, so the smallest daytime job is $180. Hours from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. cost 25% more.
Booking direct works like this. Send a request or call (919) 400-1844. Joey calls or texts you back, you agree on the plan and the price, and then the date is booked. A request on its own does not hold a date, and there is nothing to pay to ask. Our page on what moving labor costs near Raleigh has worked examples.
What to send when you ask for a quote
Whichever way you book, a short note helps us plan the right crew:
- Which end you need help with: loading, unloading or both.
- The towns for each stop and the date you have in mind.
- What you are moving into: the rental size, or the container company and size.
- Anything heavy or awkward. If it is unusual, tell us and we will say honestly whether it is a job for us.
- Stairs, elevators and where the vehicle will park.
There is more about what the crew can do on our loading and unloading service page.
