What to have ready
Set aside medication, important documents, keys and the essentials you will carry yourself. Decide what stays and what goes. Tell us what packing materials you have, and we will tell you what else the job needs.
PACKING ORDER
What to pack first, and what to leave for last.
Whether we pack it or you do, the order is the same:
- First: storage areas, the garage, guest rooms, books, off-season clothes and decor. Things you will not touch before the move.
- Next: the kitchen except for a few days of dishes, then closets, then the living room.
- Last: bedding, toiletries, chargers, pet supplies and a first-night box you carry yourself.
- Never in a box: medication, passports and documents, cash, jewelry, keys and anything you cannot replace.

How we pack the breakable things.
Dishes stand on edge in a double-walled box with paper between each one, never flat in a stack. Glasses get wrapped one at a time and go in cell dividers. A TV travels best in its original box; if that is gone, a TV box from the rental store and a blanket do the job. Lamps lose their shades and bulbs first. Every box gets the room name and a “fragile” mark on two sides.

Boxes to have ready.
A rough guide for a two-bedroom home: 20 to 30 small boxes for books and kitchenware, 20 to 30 medium boxes for most rooms, 10 to 15 large boxes for bedding and lamps, plus a few wardrobe boxes, two rolls of tape per person packing, and a bundle of packing paper. Tell us what you already have and we will tell you what else to pick up, or ask us to price the materials with the job.

Packing support: common questions
How much do packing services cost?
Packing is quoted separately from hourly moving labor, because the time depends on the rooms, the fragile items and whether we supply the materials. Tell us the rooms and the date and Joey gives you a quote. The two-person, two-hour minimum applies.
Can you pack just part of my home?
Yes. The kitchen only, the fragile things only, or everything but the bedrooms. Tell us which rooms or items and we quote just that.
Are packing materials included?
Tell us what you have. If you want us to supply boxes, tape and paper, say so and we will price them with the job.
Can packing and moving happen on different days?
Yes, and it is usually easier. Give us both dates and we plan the packing day first.
