MOVING GUIDE
Hiring Help to Unload a Rental Truck in the Raleigh Area
Short answer
Driving in from far away with a loaded rental truck, or waiting on a container? Book unloading only at the new address, plan for a late arrival, and get the place ready before the doors open. Here is how.
Send us the arrival day, a rough time and the truck or container size. Then we can plan a crew to meet you at the new place and carry everything in, so you are not doing it alone after a long drive.
You do not need to book loading help at the other end. We do unloading-only jobs.
Book before the truck leaves, not after
The best time to ask is while you are still packing, not after you have been on the road for two days. A request does not hold a date until you and Joey agree on the plan and the price. So send the form early, even if your arrival day is only a rough guess.
You can say "flexible" for the date. Tell us the range, and we can work out a plan with you when the day firms up. We will not promise a time before we have talked to you, but we will tell you honestly what we can do.
If you want to compare options, our guide on hiring movers just to load or unload your own rental truck explains the labor-only model in more detail.
What to send us
On the quote request, choose unloading only and add:
- The town or ZIP of your new address. Exact address and gate codes can wait until Joey texts you back.
- Your likely arrival day and a rough time, plus how long you are willing to wait.
- What you are bringing: the rental truck size, or the container company and size.
- Stairs, an elevator, a long carry from the parking spot.
- Anything heavy or awkward. Tell us about it; we will say honestly whether it is a job for us.
- Whether you have moving blankets, straps or a dolly.

We cover more on how the crew handles one end of a move on our loading and unloading page.
If you arrive late, or a day early
Long drives do not run to the minute. Weather, traffic, a late rental pickup or a tired driver can all move your arrival.
The simple rule is to text as soon as you know. The earlier we hear, the more options there are for the crew's day. Text (919) 400-1844 (or call (919) 400-1844); do not wait until you are sitting in the driveway.
What helps us plan:
- Give us a rough window, not a single minute.
- Tell us when you are about two hours out, if you can.
- If you are stuck overnight on the road, say so before the night.
Rescheduling works best when we can talk. We do work 24 hours Monday to Saturday, depending on crew availability, and we are closed Sunday. Time worked from 5 p.m. to 6 a.m. costs 25% more, only for the hours in that window. We are closed on Sundays, so tell us early if you expect to arrive on a Sunday.
Getting the new place ready
A few minutes of prep before the crew starts saves time on every trip.
- Parking. Pick the spot nearest the door where a large rental can sit, and keep it clear. In an apartment complex, ask the office where a moving vehicle may park. If the vehicle will sit on a city street in Raleigh, check the city's rules first. The city's right-of-way occupancy page says parking passes for moving vans come from Raleigh Parking, and that a portable storage container in a parking space needs a permit.
- Elevator. Ask your new building whether an elevator can be reserved for the day and for how long.
- A clear path. Move shoes, mats and small furniture out of the hall and front room. Prop the doors open.
- Room labels. Tape a sheet of paper to each door with the room name: "Master bedroom", "Kitchen", "Office". It is the quickest way to tell a crew where things go.
- A simple plan. A rough sketch of the main rooms with an X for the bed, couch and dresser takes little time and prevents a lot of moving things twice.
- Utilities and keys. Make sure the power is on, the keys work and someone can let the crew in.
If a container is on its way
PODS says its containers stay at ground level, so no ramp is needed, but every container needs space at the new address too: a flat, level spot, room for the delivery vehicle, and sometimes a city or HOA permit. PODS, for example, lists a clearance area of 12 feet wide, 15 feet high and 40 feet long for delivery. Each company publishes its own rules, so ask yours what it needs at your address. Our guide on loading a PODS or U-Box container lists the placement rules for each company.
Tell us the container size and where it will sit when you send your request, so we can plan the carry.
What to do first once everything is inside
Before the crew leaves, take a few minutes to walk through:
- Check that each room has what you expect and that large pieces are where you want them.
- Point out anything to move now. It is easier to shift a dresser while the crew is there.
- Keep the bed frame, a lamp and a first-night box close to the bedroom.
- Ask about reassembly. If a bed or table needs putting back together, tell us when you request the quote so we plan the time and bring tools.
Returning the rental on time
Your rental agreement sets where and when the truck goes back. Read it before you leave, and check the return time and location again once you know your arrival day. Plan the unloading so the truck is empty with time to spare, and tell us your return deadline when you send the request. We will plan around it where we can.
What it costs
Unloading help is moving labor, priced for the whole crew by the hour. Two movers are $90 per daytime hour for hours 1 to 3, then $81 per hour from hour 4. Every job has a two-hour minimum of $180. Our moving cost page has worked examples. We do not give time estimates before we know your load, stairs and parking; Joey will talk it through with you when he texts you back.
Where we meet people arriving
We serve anywhere within 75 miles of Raleigh. If you are heading into the city, our Raleigh page has local details. Tell us the town or ZIP of your new place and we will tell you whether it is in range.
